I don't do them particularly often. Perhaps if you read them you'll understand why: I get far too forensic on them and end up driving myself mad. Most album reviews are a nice 400 words. Mine have been known to breach the 1500 mark. I had a band contact me once saying: "Thanks for the review but you read way too much into it, we just made a record we liked."
I just about blew up reading that. I spent hours on their saucy album, finding all the nuances in the lyrics that made for 'such an important record'.
If you're still feeling like you may enjoy these albums after digesting thousands of words then there's a market for my scribbles. If, more likely, you don't then we're still friends.
Suede and me - The two of us
- not a review as such more a deconstruction of Suede I wrote at the time of their reunion. Read it and download some stuff if you're not familiar. Not wishing to sound like such a screaming fan but this really is a band that needs to be heard. History, and their rotten last years, run the risk of snuffing their importance.
What Would Jesus Drive - Black and Blue
- when something sounds a little chavvy, perhaps I'm not alone in casting early judgement. I'm glad I stuck with this one because I realised I'd been missold and the band knew what they were doing every step of the way.
Marina Celeste - The Angel Pop
- I was asked a favour by my friends at a PR company who said something like: "she's such a nice lady but she hasn't had much coverage here." I like to help where I can. Even though her album rather annoyed me in parts.
